Two Top Dancers

For the second successive year, Mr and Mrs Tony Dyer, both 22 years of age, of 10 Mount Terrace, Wombwell, have won the Yorkshire Professional Old Time Dancing Championship.

They gained the distinction at Leeds on Friday, bringing back with a trophy and a cheque.

Having turned professional only two years ago, they are in the final of most major championships throughout the country.

Mrs Dyer, formally Mr Denise Walker, only daughter of Mr and Mrs D Walker of 4 Mount Terrace, Wombwell, and her husband, have been dancing together for four years, and in that time have won 100s of trophies and medals.

When Mr and Mrs Dyer won the Yorkshire championship 12 months ago, it was their first competition after the birth of their only child, Tracy, now 14 months old.

The couple have several times appeared on television, and represented the North of England in a BBC, “Come dancing” program before they relinquished their amateur status.

Mr Dyer is employed as a National Coal Board driver.
