Tribute to Roy Kilner from America

June 1928

Mexborough and Swinton Times, June 15, 1928

Although two months have elapsed since the death of Roy Kilner, tributes continue to come in.

Roy had admirers all over the world and typical of the sentiment his countrymen abroad entertained for him are the expressions contained in a letter received by the ” Mexborough and Swinton Times ‘ from Miss Beatrice Whitaker, of 1,406, Byron Street, Chicago, U.S.A. Miss Whitaker is a native of Wombwell and would know Roy personally.

She writes “It was a great surprise, and also, a shock to us to read of the death of Roy Kilner in your paper April 13th, 1928. Being natives of Wombwell my brothers and sisters and I always followed Roy’s exploits with the greatest pride and interest. Roy was one of England’s greatest cricketers and we shall feel his loss as keenly as though one of our own had passed away.”
