Tribute by Nonconformists

May 1927

Mexborough and Swinton Times May 6, 1927

A well-deserved tribute was that paid to Mr Noah Hill (picture) last week, when representatives of the Nonconformist churches gave him a handsome timepiece, as a token of appreciation of long and faithful local service to religion and music.

It was appropriate that the honour of handing the gift to Mr Hill should fall to Mr Edward Lawrence, who has also been honoured by the Sunday schools for long service, and has been associated with Mr Hill in hundreds of choral performances.

There were many veteran church workers present. Mr Hill is a native of Jump and the son of a well-known musician, the late Mr William Hill.

He founded the old Jump orchestra and the Wombwell Sympathy orchestra, and is assisted at church anniversary services for over 30 years.
