Tragic Sequel to Journey To Fill Up With Petrol

Last Thursday night Walter Driffill (32), labourer, second of the four sons of Mr and Mrs Walter Driffil, 43 Nobel Ave, Brampton, went on his motorbike to get a fill-up of petrol at Wombwell garage. Shortly afterwards he suffered severe injuries in an accident in Barnsley Road, Wombwell, the same night died in Beckett hospital, Barnsley

Also injured in the accident was Miss Anne Isabel Washington, a widow, of Bradley Avenue, Wombwell, who was also taking the Beckett hospital Barnsley. It is understood she was crossing the road when she was struck by the motorcycle.

Walter Driffill was an old boy of Brampton Ellis School, on leaving which he took up farm work. Later he worked for Wath U.D.C. in the highways department. He recently entered the employment of Edgar Aliens and last week-end was due to draw his first               wage  after being off for a period of five weeks with an injury to his wrist.

He had the motorcycle about two years and had ordered a new one.

His hobbies were music and reading and he was very fond of motorcycling.
