Town Goes Gay
Wombwell Ready For The Coronation
Another “Reight Do”

Having gained a reputation at the Jubilee two years ago of being “the most gaily decorated town of its size in the country,” Wombwell is going to live up to it at the coronation.

Both in street decorations and in the spirit of loyal manifestation the township is determined to excel.

At a meeting on Wednesday details were approved of a program to extend over a week, and these will doubtless be confirmed at the towns meeting to be held in the Council Chamber at the town Hall at 7 pm next Thursday.

New Chairman

As the newly elected Chairman of the Council, Mr H Hallsworth, JP (picture)has assumed leadership of the coronation festivities and in a truly sportsmanlike way, Mr E Copeland, the former chairman of the council who has done a great deal of the “spadework,” has given the new civic head now his “blessing”in the matter.

The changeover was affected at Tuesday night’s meeting. Mr Hallsworth said it was not an easy matter to “swap” horses while they were crossing the stream, and personally would have liked Mr Copeland to carry on until they were through with their coronation programme. He hoped however, that Wombwell people would all pull together in that spirit of loyal cooperation.

The meeting proceeded to discuss details of the festivities, the various committees submitting reports of progress. The following schedule was submitted by the general organisation secretary, Mr EJ Wellens and approved:
