“Times” Reader for 48 Years

August 1938

Mexborough and Swinton Times August 26, 1938

In the centre of this group of four generations is Mrs. Lily Moore (66), of 2, Prospect Terrace, Wombwell.

The others are (left) her daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Underwood, (47), of Garden Street, Chatham ; (right), her grand-daughter, Mrs. Lily Smith (23), of Chatham, and her great grand-daughter, Shirley Smith, aged eighteen months.

The photograph was taken on a recent visit by Mrs. Moore to Chatham. Mrs. Moore was born at Tickhill but has lived in Wombwell since she was eleven years of age. Her father was the late Mr. Fred Gleadhill. She was married at Wombwell Parish Church 48 years ago, and she and her husband have lived at their present address for 33 years.

Moore has taken the “Times” the whole of her married life and never fails to send it to her daughter who is thus able to keep in touch with events at home. “Worth half a dozen of any other papers”, she says.
