The “Penny a Week “ Special

At 6:30 a.m. scene in the sidings at Cortonwood Colliery on Saturday, children and members of the working committee giving three cheers before embarking on the “Penny – a – week” trip to Cleethorpes, so-called because every house in concrete village subscribed a penny a week towards the trip.

Altogether 180 children and as many adults enjoyed the outing.
