Table Tennis – A Local Coup

Alan Hartley, of Barnsley North End, a native of Wombwell, has been selected to play for Yorkshire’s North Division team against Northumberland at Selby on November 17th.

He is the first man from Barnsley and district ever to play for the county. His performance against Hinchcliffe, Yorkshire’s No 2, in the Yorkshire “open” was observed by the selectors who were impressed by his play.

Wombwell Zion maintained their unbeaten record in Division II. of the Barnsley T.T. league by defeating the Wanderers 6-3. The honours were shared equally among W. A. Hartley, Ibbotson, C. Orwin and B. Prigmore, as each lost to J. Levi only.  Zion ”A” are still with a win in Division IV. and the “B” team were rather unfortunate to lose 5-4 Beatson Clark’s in Division VII.
