Mr. Robert Ernest Williams (31), of 258, Summer Lane. Wombwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Williams, of the same address, has been appointed assistant cashier of the Power Group of the Transport Workers’ Union.

There were over a hundred applicants for the position. Mr. Williams was born at Catcliffe, near Sheffield, but has lived in Wombwell 27 years, his father having been employed all that time as a winding engineman at Darfield Main Colliery.

He attended John Street Council School, Wombwell, afterwards was employed as an engineman at Darfield Main Colliery and later took special training for secretarial and commercial work.

For over five years he has been employed by the Refuge Assurance Co.

Six months ago Mr. Williams married Miss Mabel Thomas, of Maesteg, South Wales, who had formerly been a member of the teaching staff of Barnsley Road Council School, Wombwell. For a long time Mr. Williams has been a prominent figure in the social life of Wombwell. He will work at Rotherham.
