Successful at Barnsley Fanciers

August 1932

Mexborough and Swinton Times, April 8th, 1932

At a show held under the auspices of the Barnsley Fanciers’ Society at the Corner Pin Hotel, Barnsley, on Saturday, one of the most successful exhibitors was Loxley Boocock, the thirteen-year-old son of Coun. and Mrs. Boocock of 12 Melville Street, Wombwell.

The boy specialises in the breeding of modern game black and red bantams and at the exhibition took first prize and special with a cock in the open modern game bantam class. With the same bird he took a cup and special for the best bantam in the show, and for the best black red bantam pullet, this young exhibitor gained second place honours.

An amazing featured of the boy’s success is that he is quite new to the fancy. Some months ago, he was given a pair of bantams and the gift encouraged him to breed show birds. He is a member of the Barnsley Fanciers’ Society but this is the first time he has exhibited.

His father was formerly associated with the old Wombwell Fanciers’ Society, now defunct, and was well known throughout the district as an exhibitor. The boy attends Wombwell Middle School.
