Stole to go to the Hippodrome
William Cain (8), of Concrete, was charged with having stolen 5s the property of Arthur George Gibson of Brampton Bierlow, on August 10.
The prosecutor said he had gone in the garden behind the shop, and when he returned he saw the lad in the shop. The lad went away, and am looking on the shelf way he kept his money the witness found a five shilling piece to be missing. The lad’s sister afterwards came to the shop with the money.
PC: said he charged the lad with the offence and he replied, “I took it off the shelf, so that I could go to the ‘Hip’.
Both the lad and his father were bound over in the sum of 50 shillings, the boy to be of good behaviour for 12 months, and the father as surety. The father was ordered to pay 5s towards the costs.
