Three Serving

Mr. and Mrs Wardle, of 38 Edward Street, Wombwell have two sons and a daughter serving with the forces and not one is over 20.

The youngest of the three is Pte. George Wardle (17) (picture, left) who is in  the Black Watch. He left work at Cortonwood Colliery to join up at the age of 16.

Next oldest of the trio  is Pte. Mary Wardle (18), who is working as a cook in the A.T.S. She joined up in August of last year.

Gunner Melbourne Wardle is 20 (picture right) and has been serving two years. Before the outbreak of war he had done two years in the Teerritorials.

The family are well known at Brampton, where they lived before moving to Wombwell and the three children are all ex-pupils of Brampton School.
