Killed in Action
News has been received of the death in action on Oct. 12 of Private. Frank Pettit (York and Lancaster) (right picture) 50, Hawson street, Wombwell.
His sister has received the following letter from Sec.-Lieut. H. D. Hughes: “It is with great sorrow that I heard of the death of your brother Frank. I was not with him at the time, but I know he was at his post and doing his duty, and his loss is a great blow to me. He was liked by us all.
He was buried near Jack Haywood, another of our men from your street, in a cemetery near here. Words always seem useless in a case like this, but I wanted to tell you how we miss him. Please accept my most sincere sympathy for your sad loss.”
Pte. Pettit’s ,brother, Pte. Henry Pettit. (Y. and L.) (left picture), was killed in. action in France on May 10, 1917.
