Military Medal for Wombwell Sergeant

Sgt Israel Woolcott (York and Lancaster) has received the Military Medal for showing conspicuous gallantry on Mount Gorrell, on the night of 8 – 9 June 1917, when he got a Lewis gun into position and remained alone with it (his team have become casualties) during a heavy bombardment.

He resides at 45 Elliott’s Terrace, New Scarborough, Wombwell and is now regaining his strength after being wounded
