Soldier – Vaughan, James – Killed in Action

September 1918

Mexborough and Swinton Times September 7, 1918

Private James Vaughan
East Yorkshire Regiment

Private Vaughan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Vaughan, 12, Murtle road, Wombwell, was killed in action in France on August 12.

Second Lieutenant R.Pinder writes:

“it will probably be some consolation to you to know that his death was absolutely painless. He was one of my most promising men and he is mourned by ail the men of the platoon and company, by whom he held in the highest esteem.

It will be hard to preplace him, for he was always ready for anything that came along, and did his duty nobly and well.”
