Commission in Reconnaissance Corps

Mr J.H.Peter Upton (20), elder son of Mr J Upton, “Woodville,” Lane, Wombwell., Dearne Valley representative of the “South Yorkshire Times,” and Mrs Upton, has been commissioned in the reconnaissance Corps. Educated at Ellis School, Hemingfield, and King Edward VII school Sheffield, where he took a prominent part in sport, he later became a student of law at Sheffield University, and was articled with Mr W.Winter, the Barnsley solicitor.

He passed the Intermediate Examination for the degree of L.L.B. at the University in June of last year

he served 18 months in the University O.G.C., reaching the rank of Corporal, and before entering an Officer Cadet Training Unit had a short period in the ranks with an infantry regiment.

Mr. Upton is a playing member of Wombwell Thespian Amateur Dramatic Society.
