Soldier – Shaw V.H. – Captured not Killed

June 1918

Mexborough and Swinton Times June 1, 1918

Pte. V. H. Shaw.

An official mistake has been made in the case of Pte. Victor Hubert Shaw (Sherwood Foresters), 20, Church street, Wombwell, who was reported killed in action between March 21 and 23.

It transpires, happily, that he was not killed, but captured.

His mother has received a letter from him postmarked Limburg, in which he says: “I ot wowided in the right shoulder, and was taken prisoner on the 21st of March.

The shrapnel is still in my shoulder; otherwise I eia all right and have the use of my right arm, as you can see, or I should not have been able to write this lettet.

You have no need to  worry, as I elm getting on all right.
