Soldier – Shannon, John – Died of Severe Shrapnel Wounds

Private John Shannon
(York & Lancs)

Private Shannon, 33 Elliott’s Terrace, has died of wounds received in action.

His brother has received a letter from the hospital chaplain, stating that Private Shannon received severe shrapnel wounds in the chest on /july 4th and died the following day.

Private Shannon had two other brothers serving:

Sapper Tom Shannon (R.E.) and Co. Quarter Master Pat Shannon who , prior to being mobilised as a reservist, was a motorman on the Mexborough and Swinton tramways.
