Private Elijah Richards, 186 Barnsley Road, Wombwell, aged 27, died in France on October 28 from wounds received in action. He was a well-known deputy at Darfield Main. He enlisted in May after drawing “khaki” in a ballot, but he offered his services at the commencement of the war.
He was the son of Mr and Mrs Richard, 27 John street, Wombwell. His father was underground manager at Darfield Main for 11 years, and was previously manager at Barnsley Main.
Pte. Elijah Richards leaves a wife but no children. Another brother has served for three years.
