Wombwell Man who Served in Malaya
News of A.C.2 Alfred Moore (36), formerly assistant at the Park Street in Stoneyford Road, Wombwell, branches of the Barnsley co-operative Society, is anxiously awaited by his wife, Mrs. L. Moore, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Moore, who live at 14, Broomhead Road, Wombwell. A.C.2 Moore joined up in November 1940, and was drafted to the Far East in November of last year.
The last letter received from him was written from Malaya in February last. The authorities have informed Mrs. Moore that they have a list of men who were taken prisoner by the Japanese but A.C.2. Moore’s name is not on it. They have promised to communicate any information that comes to hand. Moore was a member of Park Street Methodist Church. Wombwell, and his wife before their marriage was a well-known figure on the variety stage. Moore’s brother, George, lost his life while serving with the West Yorkshire’s in the last war.
