A Wombwell Marine

“Following in father’s footsteps, following the dear old dad,” as the song goes, is Marine Joe Markham, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Markham, of 96, Station Road, Wombwell.

Joe joined up in December, 1938, and after a spot of land training is now aboard ship. His pals at Wombwell will be glad to hear that he is in good health and fettle. Marine Markham was born into a Service tradition.

His father. ex-Sergt. Markham of the 5th York and Lancasters, had two smacks at Britain’s enemies, fighting in both the South African War and the Great War.

His brother, Horace Markham , had the unusual distinction of serving in both the Army land Navy.
