information as just come to hand concerning the death and action of private J. W. Luty (York and Lancs) who before the war resided at 18 York St.

His officer writes:

“It is with the greatest regret that I have to inform you of the death and action of your husband last evening.

His was a brave end. He was struck by a piece of shell when helping to release a man who had been buried. He will be sadly missed by all of us. Please accept our sincere condolences.”
