Killed in Action
Broomhill Man Who Was at Dunkirk
News was received yesterday that Private Clifford Hinchliffe Layhe (31), Royal Artillery, of 187, Broomhill Lane, Broomhill, Wombwell, had been killed in action in the Middle East, on June 26th.
Pte. Layhe was a son of Mrs. Layhe of the above address, and the late Mr. Robert Layhe. He was brought up by his grand-father , Mr. James Hinchliffe.
An old boy of Broomhill Council School, he worked at Darfield Main Colliery prior to joining the Army four years ago.
Shortly after the outbreak of war he was drafted to France, and in the evacuation from Dunkirk suffered great hardship.
