Private Jones, 42, Milton street, Wombwell, was killed in action in France on September 12.

He is aged 42, and leaves a widow and six children. He was a native of Barnsley, but had lived in Wombwell many years. Before joining the Army he was an esteemed member of the Wombwell Volunteer Company

He had only been in France three months when he met his death.

His widow has received a message of sympathy from the company commander, who speaks highly of Pte. Jones’s soldierly qualities.
