In Three Regiments At 18

Old boys of Brampton Ellis School, two Wombwell brothers are serving in the Coldstream Guards. They are Pte. Arthur Humphreys (18), and Private Charles Humphreys (21), sons of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Humphreys, formerly of 64, Gower Street, Wombwell, and now removed to 43, Trinity Street. Huddersfield. Both stand over six feet.

Guardsman Arthur Humphreys joined the Royal Artillery when he was sixteen and transferred to the Duke of Wellington’s a few months later, rising to the rank of Corporal. When war broke out he realised his ambition to be in the same regiment as his brother, transferring to the Coldstream Guards. He therefore holds the unique distinction of having served in three regiments at the age of 18.

Pte. Charles Humphreys joined the Coldstream Guards in 1937 and is now serving abroad. Arthur is still in England.

They are also old boys of Park Street Council School, Wombwell.

The brothers are grandsons of Mr. Charles Humphreys, of 55, Gower Street, Wombwell, who died recently.
