Pioneer P Hargate, Broomhill, Wombwell, who enlisted about two years ago, and had seen much severe fighting, was killed in action in September 4.

He was well known in local athletics circles, being a prominent footballer and cricketer.

He was also a member of the Primitive Methodist Sunday School.
