Now New Member of Wombwell U.D.C.

Mr. Alfred Tutill (36), of 66, Myers Street, Wombwell, has been elected a member of Wombwell Urban Council, filling the South West ward vacancy created by the election of Mr. Edwin Wainwright as member of Parliament for the Dearne Valley Division.

Mr. Tutill was chosen as Labour Party candidate at a meeting at Wombwell Library on Wednesday. and when nominations closed yesterday (Thursday) no opposition had been put forward.

A native of Mitchells Terrace, Wombwell, Mr. Tuthill is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Tutill, of 30, Myers Street. He is married and has one child, Janet (6).

On leaving school. Mr. Tutill started work at Wombwell Main Colliery and subsequently worked at Mitchell Main, being transferred to Darfield Main when Mitchells closed three years ago. He is now employed as a ripper. Toward the latter end of the Second World War, Mr. Tutill served in the Royal Air Force, seeing service in England and Gibraltar. He joined the Labour Party at the minimum age of 16, and has a continued membership of 20 years. He is a National Savings Group secretary.

The same night Mr. Tutill was also elected a member of the committee of Darfield Main branch of the National Union of Mineworkers
