The members of the Wombwell Congregational church are to present a silver watch to Cyril Law (14), in recognition of his gallantry in rescuing a boy named Hollings, aged seven, from drowning in the canal.
Law was playing football in a field adjoining the canal in Broomhill, when he heard that Hollings had fallen into the water. Jumping into the canal fully close, he succeeded after a struggle in getting the boy to the side, where he recovered after artificial respiration. But for Law’s plucky act Hollings would undoubtedly have been drowned. The Urban Council have forwarded particulars with a view to recognition by the Royal Humane Society.
Law is a scholar in the Wombwell Congregational Sunday school.
It has been decided that Mr Tom Kay (picture), manager of the Wombwell Baths, who taught Law to swim, shall be associated with the presentation.
How many lives has Mr Kaye been instrumental in saving indirectly?
