School Mistress Retiring

At the conclusion of near’ 40 years’ service in the schools of Wombwell, during which she has always had the good word of the local education authority, enjoyed the respect of her colleagues and retained the affection of thousands of children after they have passed through her hands, Miss Rosa Bretton, of Barnsley Road, Wombwell, is to retire at the end of this month from the staff of Park street, Council School. Wombwell.

Miss Bretton was born in Wombwell and is one of four daughters of the late Mr. and Mrs, John Alfred Bretton who all entered the teaching profession. Miss Rosa Bretton has served at various times in all the schools of Wombwell. She started her career at Barnsley Road, taught for twenty years at Broomhill, and has been at Park Street since last May.

Three unmarried sisters live together at Barnsley Road. One of them, Ms Alberta Bretton, retired from Brampton Bierlow Junior School last year; another, Miss Elizabeth Bretton, has also been a teacher.

A fourth sister who is married and lives at Glasgow was at, one time a teacher at Barnsley Road, Wombwell.

Miss Bretton will retire with the good wishes of all with whom she has come into contact in connection with her professional duties,
