Scholarship Winner
To Hemingfield Ellis Church School has gone the honour of winning this year’s Carnelley Scholarship, tenable at Holgate Grammar School, Barnsley.
The winner of the scholarship is Bryan C. Binns (10), younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Binns, of 92, Woodside Crescent, Hemingfield Road, Wombwell.
The scholarship is valued at £150 spread over six years, which the Governors have power to extend in their discretion. It is available to boys whose parents have for least two years lived in the area normally served by the school. Only one scholarship a year is granted. There were two examinations, at the first of which the candidates were reduced in number to three.
Hemingfield Ellis School had two entrants this year. Winners of the scholarship are required to continue their education at Barnsley Holgate Grammar School to Higher School Certificate stage. —Bryan Binns won a first prize in an essay competition organised in connection with Wombwell Savings Week some months ago. He recently sat for the County Minor Scholarship.
His brother, Donald (12), is at Ecclesfield Grammar School.
