Scarborough Disorganised
Scarborough 2 Wombwell 1
Wombwell played pluckily at Scarborough, and although largely on the defensive, held the lead for 50 minutes through agoal scored by Jones (R) from inside-left. Then Green and Hill scored fine goals for Scarborough who were without Wallbanks, centre-torward. An injury to Maskill, right-half caused the home forward line to be somewhat disorganised. Tiuckett, Scarborough’s 17 year old player, gave a very impressive display.
Barnsley Reserves 3 Mexborough Athletic 0
A high wind completely spoiled the game at Oakwell between Barnsley Reserves and Mexborough and good football was out of the question.
Barnsley, who won 3—0 and who were on top throughout, missed many opportunities, though Best played well in the visiting goal. Whiteley and Newman, a centre-forward from Newcastle scored for Barnsely in the first half and Maskill (penalty) in the second half. Barnsley were well served by the halves, Smith and Shears playing strongly, while in attack Newcastle showed plenty of energy.
Mexborough defended stubbornly, Wheatley and Greig doing good work.
Denaby United 2 Bradford Reserves 5
Bradford Reserves showed the better staying powers at Denaby, scoring three goals in the closing stages to win 5—2.
Aided by a stiff breeze, Denaby were only on level terms at the interval. Black having scored for them and Norton equalising. Purden put Bradford ahead, but Black levelled the scores.
Pacey gave Bradford the lead while the Denaby defenders stood appealing for off-side, and increased this after being hit by the ball from a goal kick. Scott scored the fifth.
