Fall of Mitchell Main
The first defeat of Mitchell Main was the outstanding occurrences on Saturday. Mitchell Main’s long run in their initial year in the Council ended in a remarkable batting collapse before the evergreen Alban Turner, which gave Hickleton their outstanding success of the season.
The annual Feast match at Swinton brought disappointments. Mexboro’ early, in the game lost Day, the bowler who made things interesting last year, and Swinton made such slow progress that a short break for rain was sufficient to put a decisive result out of the region of probabilities at teatime. In the end it was only another stout effort by Broadhead that saved Mexboro’ from the indignity of a double defeat by Swinton, a dry rubbing which has not speaking from memory occurred for a good many seasons.
Alban Turner’s six Mitchell Main wickets for 15 runs was the outstanding individual performance of the day. Heaton, the Swinton left-hander, was the day’s top scorer.
