Seaman Killed
Funeral at Wombwell.
A detachment of the Home Guard paid honours at Wombwell on Monday at the funeral of Seaman Arthur Robinson (32), of 5 Poplar Road, Park Street,Wombwell, who was killed by enemy action while serving in the Navy.
The family received the news last week, and two days later there arrived from Robinson, a parcel containing chocolates for his two children. He had despatched the parcel while on shore leave.
Seaman Robinson was a son of the late Mr. Tom Robinson, one time Mitchell Main cricketer, and for many years steward of Wombwell Conservative Club, a position he relinquished nine years ago. Arthur Robinson was an old boy of Park Street Council School. Wombwell, and for a long time worked at Mitchell Main Colliery. On Joining the navy eleven months ago he left work as a labourer with Messrs. Saville and Law, builders, Wombwell.
He leaves a widow and two young children.
The Home Guard were also bearers at the funeral and there was a large following of relatives and friends. A Union Jack draped the coffin. The funeral service was conducted by the Rector. Canon. J.
