Abroad At 19

One of the youngest Wombwell men serving abroad is A/B. James Jukes (19) son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Jukes, 10 King’s Road.

He joined the Navy at 18, and has now been overseas nine months serving the greater part of that time at Malta.

He attended King’s Road and Modern Schools, Wombwell, and before donning uniform was employed on farm work with Mr. Harry Charlesworth.

Jukes has met his cousin from Denaby who is also serving in Malta, and hopes to make contact with his brother, Pte. Richard Jukes (27), who landed with a pioneer company at the Anzio beach head. Richard has the Africa star.
