Santa Claus at Sea

The Forces seem to be a “family affair” with Seaman Leslie Grievson whose home is at 81, Blythe Street, Wombwell, and his present address somewhere afloat.

In the Great War both his mother and father were in the Forces, his mother being one of the few local W.A.A.C.’s. Also he had three uncles serving.

Leslie Grievson joined the Navy four years ago at the age of sixteen so he is now something of a “veteran.” Between leaving school and joining up he worked at Wombwell Main and was a Boy Scout.

The Navy suits him “down to the ground,” and he says they have no rationing troubles. He writes particularly to thank the Wombwell branch of the British Legion for their Christmas parcel and 5s. “just what he had asked Santa Claus to bring him.”

His mother is standard bearer for the women’s section of the Wombwell branch of the Legion.
