At Landings
At the landings on the Normandy beaches on D-Day, Telegraphist Horace Beevers, (20), son of Mr. and Mrs. A Beevers, 84, Wood Walk, Wombwell, was back in Wombwell last week-end, the first man from the district to come back with these impressions. He has been in the Navy only nine months.
Beevers is an old boy of Wombwell Modern School, and before joining the Navy last year was employed at Wombwell Main Foundry. He was serving aboard a man-of-war and says he would not have missed the experience for worlds.
So far as he could see the casualties on the Allied side were light.
