Romance of the Sunday School
A romance which blossomed in the Young People’s Class at Barnsley Road Methodist Church at Wombwell, will have a happy sequel tomorrow (Saturday) at a party held to celebrate the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs William Ernest Everatt of Hillcrest, 4 Aldham House Lane, Wombwell.
The couple were married at that place of worship on September 27, 1910, driving to church behind a couple of cream ponies supplied by tr. William Barker, of High Street, Wombwell.
The couple now have a son (Mr. G. E. Everatt of 3, Yvonne Grove, Wombwell), a daughter (Mrs. C. Simister of 27, West Avenue, Wombwell), four grand-children and a great grandchild.
Mr, Everatt (72), was born at Town End Farm, Wath, but he was still in his early boyhood when his parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Foster Everatt moved to Aldam House Farm Wombwell, where Mr Everatt was Bailiff of the Wombwell Main Company. Mrs Everatt (17), is a native of Burnley, but she also has lived in Wombwell from childhood.
The couple met as members of the Young People’s Classes at Barnsley Road Methodist Church. Both went Barnsley Road Council School, Wombwell stop
Mr Everatt retired from Wombwell Main Colliery five years ago, having been employed there all his working life. For over forty years he was a winding engine man and holds a mineworker long service badge and certificate.
During the first World War Mr Everatt served in France with the York and Lancaster Regiment, and in his younger days he played football and cricket for Wombwell Main. The couple are in good health, and in addition to doing all her own housework
Mrs. Everatt finds time for committee work in Wombwell Derby and Joan Club and at the retired Miners’ Institute at Wombwell. The couple were married at Wombwell main.
