“Rock” Night Popular at Wombwell
“Big Rock-N-Beat” some of countries leading stage artists attracted a large audience at the Plaza Cinema, Wombwell, last Thursday.
Johnny Duncan’s Blue Grass Boys, making their second appearance in the town, topped the bill with glamorous blonde vocalist Jill Day.
The cast also included Bill Forbes, vocalist of ITV’s “Oh Boy” show, America’s singing sensation, Vince Taylor, and His Playboys, rock ‘n’ rollers The Wiseguys, new recording star Billy Fury, and comedian Bobby Dennis.
The show was efficiently and amusingly compered by Bobby Dennis, who also conducted competition for prizes, including records by well-known artists. Inviting onto the stage couples who were to be married over the Easter holidays, Bobby Dennis presented cheques of £8 toward honeymoon expenses.
Rock ‘n’ roll idol Marty Wilde, who almost “stopped the show” when he appeared in Wombwell recently, is to sing at the plaza on Monday April 13th. On the bill also will be Cuddly Dudley, Malcolm Vaughan and Kenneth the Carson Twins, the Wildcats and Colin and Christine Campbell
