Wombwell Men in “Scrap” at Elsecar.

On Saturday October 12th Albert Edward Frith and Samuel Heathcote, miners. Wombwell were seen in Hill Street, Elsecar in a belligerent attitude. At Barnsley, on Wednesday they were charged with using violent and abusive language. Both they could not remember using the language complained of.

A police constable, stated that on receiving complaints that two men were fighting, he proceeded to Hill Street and saw the defendants fighting outside the railway elation. Aaround then was a crowd of about a hundred and fifty.

The defendants had their jackets off and were using violent language.

Heathcote gave a wrong name and an address at Barnsley. When traced he said “If my father gets to know about this it will be all up. “ – Frith said It will cause a lot of trouble if you summon us.”
