‘Ref’ and Teams Exhausted

Gales lashed grounds throughout the country today, gusts of 60 miles per hour being almost general.

A doctor had to be called to Ingham, Gateshead’s outside right, who collapsed from exhaustion in the dressing room at half time at Oldham.

Conditions for the Wombwell Athletic v. Sheffield “A” Yorkshire League match were so bad at Wombwell that the match was abandoned after 65 minutes.

The players were completely exhausted. Club officials had to cut their boot laces and help them to undress. The referee was so exhausted that he had to be assisted into a dressing room.

Rain “drove” at the players in icy sheets.
