Promoted Sergeant
From Wombwell to Mexborough
Police Constable John Murray, who is stationed at Wombwell has been promoted Sergeant and will be transferred to Mexborough.
A native of Glasgow, Mr. Murray joint the West Riding Constabularly in 1936 and was first stationed at Shipley. Just before the war, he was moved to Darfield and remained there until about two years ago. During the war he served as a Flight Engineer in No. 5 Bomber group of the R.A.F.
Mr. Murray is an enthusiastic stamp collector and a prominent member of Barnsley Philatelist Society. In his collection he has also complete set of German stamps minted during the Hitler regime and all bear the bead of the Fuhrer.
Of a literary turn of minds be is a great lover of Burns and Longfellow.
