Prize Rabbit.
Stanley Wraith, a seventeen-year-old youth of 58, Pitt Street, Low Valley, is making something of a name for himself with his rabbits, which are attracting the attention of fanciers from all around.
His special pet, a Dutch rabbit, won two first prizes and three specials at the Barnsley Fanciers’ Show on Saturday, and the week before carried off first prize at Swinton Fanciers’ Show. On Saturday its awards were first in the challenge and first in the adult classes, a big cup and miniature cup in the best members’ class, and a special diploma from the Fur and Feather Society. It is a black and white Dutch, beautifully marked, with a remarkably thick coat.
Stanley has been keenly interested in rabbits for years, and has spent much of his spare time and cash in the development of his hobby. He is employed at Houghton Main Colliery, and last season assisted Low Valley Red Rose Intermediate Football team. In the early part of this season he had 83 rabbits of the Dutch, English and Belgian Hare types. At present he has nearly 40.
