Pretty Spectacle at Wombwell School.

The sweet and mellow atmosphere of fruitful autumn was introduced at Barnsley Road Infants School Wombwell on Wednesday morning on the occasion of the harvest festival.

The children brought in a large offering of fruit, vegetables, corn and flowers, most of which were used for the decoration of a central platform, altar or centrepiece which the children faced in their act of devotional homage and thankfulness.

The ceremonies were watched by members of the Wombwell Education Subcommittee, a large company of parents, and the children were addressed by Rev M Robinson, of Barnsley Road Methodist Church, the Rev S J V Rees, deputising for the Rector of Wombwell (Canon J St. Ledger Blakeney), and the Rev Maurice Kaye, a minister from Canada who is home in Wombwell on holiday.
