Postal Appointment

Mr. Charles Taylor has taken up his appointment as postmaster at Wombwell in succession to Mr. J. E. Ives who has gone into retirement. Mr. Taylor comes from the telegraph department of the G.P.O. at Manchester where he has spent the whole of his working life. An Service man, he served during the war with the Royal Engineers in France and Egypt.
Under Mr. Taylor’s direction the department at Wombwell is being reorganised and already Mr. C. Taylor has visited a number of leading business men and other townspeople for the purpose of offering and accepting suggestions for improved working. The facilities for National Savings are receiving the special attention of the Wombwell staff and it is possible that in this connection additional accommodation will be provided. Mr. Taylor told a “Times” representative that he was anxious to co-operate with the public with a view to the fullest and most efficient use being made of the available services. The Barnsley Road sub-office has been moved from Victoria Road to the main street and the need for a telephone kiosk at that point is being urged. The Wombwell Chamber of Trade are using their efforts in this matter.
