Pigeon’s Adventure.
Wombwell Bird That Fell Into Good French Hands.
The strange adventures of a pigeon were related some days ago. ‘The bird belongs to Mr. S. White, of 2. Orchard Street, Wombwell.
It was liberated at Hastings and after an absence of three weeks, during which time Mr. White had given it up for lost, it arrived home.
Attached to its leg was a note saying that for three weeks it was fed, housed and generally looked after by the proprietor of the Hotel du Carillon, Wimereuk, France.
Mr White wrote thanking the hotel proprietor for his kindness and has now received the following reply:
“I am happy that you have received your pigeon. It arrived near my kitchen on the date written on the paper, very tired. We fed it for two, days to allow to rest and then liberated, it. Some hours later we again saw about the kitchen. We again fastened it in a box, but a few hours later disappeared completely. I judged it was a very good pigeon. I think it was marvellous. I have done the same thing before but I have never received any news. I am glad to know that your pigeon was not blown away again.”
