Partnerships for 50 Years

Partnerships extending over 50 years were celebrated in two homes at Wombwell during the Christmas holidays.

The worthy couples were Mr and Mrs William Guest of Broomhead Road and Mr and Mrs Edward Russell, Ash Street, the Ash, Barnsley Road.

Mr Guest served many years as an official at Cortonwood and Wombwell Main Collieries, and the couple have spent all their married life in Wombwell. The wedding took place at Ardsley.

Mr & Mrs Edward Russell were married at St Matthew’s Camp Road, Leeds.
Mr Russell is the veteran Mitchell Main cricketer. He held club records for four years after coming to Wombwell in 1900 and continued as a player until he was 60.
