Few soldiers have had a wider experience of warfare than Captain James Orrell (R.H.A.).

Having served in India he returned to this country in January 1914, and continued to serve in the ranks as a sergeant major. On the outbreak of war he was employed as an instructor at Bradford, and in the early part of 1940 was drafted to France.

After a period of strenuous work in Argonne he was granted a commission and was sent out to Salonica as a second lieutenant. He remained in Salonica for a period of three years, taking part in many severe encounters without injury.

He subsequently rose to the rank of Captain, and in November last was sent to England, convalescing, from malaria

Captain Orrell has 17 year service to his credit. He enlisted at the age of 17, and was formerly in the service of the Cortonwood Colliery Company.

His home is at Brampton bierlow, but he is looked upon as a Wombwell Main man, as he resided for a long time with his sister, Mrs Jones in  Station Lane.
