The son of Harry S Hesketh, one of Yorkshire’s greatest printers in his day – old track enthusiasts will recall that he defeated Alf Sheldon, the Northern counties amateur champion for £100 a side at Barnsley in 1901. – Young Hesketh’s exploits have been confined to the football field and fullbacks and goalkeepers in the district of learn to fear him. He is 18 years old, stands 5 feet 10 ½ inches, and is still “going strong.”
A right arm fast bowler of no mean ability, Hesketh took seven wickets for 14 runs for Brampton in their last match of last season against Kilnhurst. On Saturday E18 Banner challenge cup medal for helping Lindale to be Platts, in the final of that competition. Hesketh is employed as a clerk at Cortonwood colliery.
