Like Father—like Daughter!

Charlie Hirst has been a miner for 52 years and, with his son, is still doing a vital Job underground at Wombwell Main Colliery.

His daughter Mabel wanted an equally important Job—so she joined the women in the Mills! She’s a worsted spinner at Huddersfield and although it means travelling 240 miles a week she says “It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. The money’s good, the work interesting and there’s good company at the mill and in the bus.”

Mabel’s doing a fine job for Britain, like all her family —if there were more like them we’d soon be well on the road to recovery!
