New Zealander’s Wombwell Visit

Jack Hayes, the New Zealand Test cricketer, has been over to see relatives. He also made a pilgrimage to the grave of the late Roy Kilner in Wombwell Cemetery. He is a slight relation of the Kilner family.

Hayes is paying his first visit to England. His father, Mr Jack Hayes, who married a daughter of Mr and Mrs James Butroid, of Wombwell, went out to New Zealand in 1912 from Darfield and has never been back.

Mr A Butroid, J.P.and Mr A Mosley, of Wombwell, are young Hayes uncles. His grandmother, Mrs Lily Butroid of Wombwell, died last January, aged 92.
